Dr. Smith sounds like a good person.
Ciao @MARSICCHIA you showed up were it was 40 some years before. The good is still going on but not at the tourist places from 40 years ago. Haight was dead and over from what it was before the summer of 1967 was over. Your English is better than my Italian. Best to you.
Smith (inherited a million dollar home). Nisker (Trustfund from East Coast) Timothy Leary (rich kid) Ram Das (father owned railroads) Peter Coyote (wealth unlimited) They all have everything is Common….MONEY From Their RICH ELITE families!! Social Action? LOL
Nisker is such a mark for himself and he’s probably the only guy on the planet that thinks he’s funny. And anyone that nicknames themself “Scoop” has got issues.
2012 a NEW SUMMER OF LOVE ? See the connection 2012 the song-Harry Loco
why not put your photos and tapes on CD as they seem to be of historic importance
The summer of love was in 1965 not in 2008. Ofcourse you couldnot find the spirit of that time there anymore, it had long gone. I think it was beautiful for one summer, and after that it was over…….
2- goin to San Francisco. well’ i guess if ya grew up back then in a place like Billings, Montana, goin to California would look real good!!
i think if they connected good, theyd do ok in the Haight, but, if they had no connections, a person lacking a certain drive and assertiveness, would have been a target for every weasel on the street!
Hi I’m Italian, last year i’ve been in Frisco only to see the meeting point of summer of love, i always dreamed about it to be there looking the the hippie videos, but when i’ve been there, i was so disgusted…only water pipe shop and hippie store sell used things only for rich peole, full of junkies and homeless everywhere and nobody cares about them…Where is the city of love and friendship?? excuse me for english mistake, i’m Italian…

You are so right.
I’m from SF Bay & The Times.
Haight was Magic before the Hype.
To quote some one else who was there.
Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead.
“The Summer of Love was pretty much the death knell of what was happening,
of the little renaissance that we had in
San Francisco in the mid-1960s,
If you ask anybody who lived in the
Haight-Ashbury before the Summer of Love, theyll all tell you the same thing.”
Originals were way Higher & Deeper than
Flower-Child’s.
Oh my gosh I MUST be tripping! LOL. I’m sure it said “You DON’T make sense.” And I’d like to see some of those photos myself. Yeah, we’re in agreement about the whole destruction of the Haight. It sure must’ve been a nice expierence while it lasted. I’ve been studying the counterculture of the ’60s since I was all of 9 years old in the summer of 1986. I’ve always wanted to have lived it myself.
Hi matt. Please read my post again SLOWLY. I said, “you DO make sense”. To me, what happened in S.F back in the mid 60s turned in to a nightmare by the late 60s. For about a year and a half it was like heaven on earth. Like a giant mass awakening. A good acid trip if you will. Then the government started to flood the city with drugs like speed, cocaine and heroin and things went bad fast. At least we had the G. Dead who kept the spirit alive into the next century. Now, here we are.
-peace!
Why do you say he doesn’t make sense? He lived it, didn’t he? He knows what’s he’s talking about. The Haight became a slum by the end of 1967. But from 1965 to the Summer Of Love it seemed to be a real groovy place to be. There was a spiritual drive with this movement and it’d be nice if Generation Y had the same drive. All we have now is Chris Brown and Rinanna, My Chemical Romance, a president who thinks he’s the Savior, and kids who don’t give a crap about anything but themselves!
how can we see your photos and tapes? You do make sense.
it was pathetic scene. herion, speed and all the bunk dope you could steal and deal. a lot of “non-hippy” older type cats preying on the desperat young people who invaded the haight district and golden gate park. it was not the summer of love it was the summer of exploytation. care to debate me? i have photos and tapes.
I wish to thank Dr. David Smith for his valuable help when I needed it. I remember some of the early use of acupuncure and electrical stimulation, much like a T.E.N.S. unit, which helped with pain issues. That guy did a lot of good. Thank you, David.
Man, I would have loved to have been there and just grab any chick.
Thank God I never had to use the Free Clinic when I was there in 1967 & 1968.
I was too high on the music and free love from the wild women there.
